Alan Pergusey is an accomplished visual artist who works with sculpture and has exhibited widely around the UK. He trained at Goldsmiths College, London and is a director of Leeds Sculpture Workshop.
His workshop introduces pupils to making sculpture using the easily resourced material of newspaper. The newspaper sheets are screwed up into a ball and then taped together to build up larger forms, thin rods can be added to the forms to strengthen them and plaster impregnated bandage is laid over to newspaper so that when it dries it will have a tough shell that’s ideal for colouring with paints.
The pupils can work individually, in pairs or in a larger group. Working in this way it is possible to make a variety of sculptures that can be adapted to fit into almost any curriculum area.
