The Art and Design Programme of Study specifies that pupils in Key Stage 1 and 2 should be given the opportunity to develop their skills to create sculpture.
Thanks to the proximity of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, The Hepworth Wakefield and the fact that Leeds is home to the Henry Moore Institute, there is no shortage of examples of sculpture to go and see. There are also a number of sculptures on the streets of Leeds city centre, which are highlighted in the latest Child Friendly Leeds city centre map (described as Statues and Landmarks).
Two artist led workshops that might be of interest to support your teaching of sculpture and 3D work are:
Creatures of the Rainforest – use clay to make a classroom full of rainforest creatures
The Ultimate Den Day – work in groups to create freestanding structures
