From the 18 – 22 November, Discover! Creative Careers is taking place across the country.  Participating schools will visit local arts and cultural organisations to allow their students to develop their knowledge and understanding of the range of jobs and roles within the sector.  Information about the week has been circulated through school based Careers leaders and some schools are developing the work through curriculum subjects.

Showcasing the range of careers available within the creative industries can be a useful way of advocating for your subject.  Discover Creative Careers , developed as part of the Creative Careers Programme, is a directory of careers information and opportunities.  FutureGoals showcases some of the opportunities available in the Leeds City Region.

If you work in a primary school and are the subject leader for Art and/or Design and Technology, our networks might be just the thing for you.

Both of the networks will meet three times a year: one half day each term.  Each session will have a themed focus and will also include national and local updates, including up to date research.

The Primary Art Leaders Network sessions are:
25th September 2018, 1pm – 4pm: Practical approaches to Art Assessment
22nd January 2019, 1pm – 4pm: Developing oracy through Art
8th May 2019, 1pm – 4pm: Planning and progression in Art

The Primary Design and Technology Leaders Network sessions are:
23rd October 2018, 9am – 4pm, Craft Development Day (This will be delivered in partnership with the University of Leeds and Leeds Arts University.)
14th March 2019, 1pm – 4pm: D&T -Mechanical Systems Made Simple
13th June 2019, 1pm – 4pm: Structures Made Simple

October sees the launch of a totally revamped Artsmark award from Arts Council England which will help your school target priorities in your school development plan with support from arts and cultural organisations and practitioners.

Cape UK are offering schools in Wakefield, York and Leeds an exclusive preview of the new-look Artsmark and the chance to meet some of the region’s arts and cultural organisations at our Artsmark Briefing and Marketplace event on 30th September at Leeds West Academy from 4pm to 6pm.

The new Artsmark has been designed with teachers to support connections with schools’ own strategies and is aligned with the National Curriculum and planning cycles. For those who have achieved Artsmark before, the biggest difference you’ll see is that Artsmark is now forward looking rather than being an audit of past work. The feedback from pilot schools who tested the new process last term has been very positive.

After the briefing session there will be a marketplace where you can meet arts and cultural organisations and practitioners to discuss your needs and find new ways of working together to achieve your aims.

If you have responsibility for ‘art’ and/or ‘the arts’ in school, then this network could be just the thing you are looking for.   Delivered over 2 days (2nd October 2015 and 4th March 2016), the course will cover practical ideas and workshops; how to embed the arts across your school setting and information about Artsmark and Arts award.
