DESCRIPTION:This is our annual Samba CPD and performance event that engages children in a thrilling musical experience while training non-specialist teachers to deliver exciting Music lessons using Brazilian percussion. There will be a workshop for teachers to learn the Samba grooves on Monday 28th May 2025 at Pudsey Civic Hall. All Samba equipment is provided. SUMMARY:KS1 The Little Sing
DESCRIPTION:An Interactive Performance Event for Key Stage 1 from Music Connect fully funded by the West Yorkshire Music Hub (WYMH) \nOn Friday 28th March Music Connect\, led by ArtForms\, will host our seventh annual Little Sing for Key Stage 1. This is an immersive Musical Experience for children where they are the performers as well as the audience. \nThe children always love the session of singing\, playing instruments and moving as do the adults who attend. \nHere’s what some of the schools had to say about last year’s Little Sing which was called Jump Into The Jungle – \n‘Thank you so much for the Little Sing last week. The children got back on the coach singing ‘Jump into the Jungle’ and we sang two of the songs to start my class music session on Tuesday. The work that had gone into it from your side was phenomenal\, so please say thank you to everyone involved from us at Five Lanes!’ \nKids could all join in at their own level – it wasn’t about getting it perfect.  A good fun and free feel\, made making music fun – so important!  Kirkstall Valley \n‘It was engaging for the children and the costumes and props were fantastic. SUMMARY:Secondary Singing Day with Craig Lees
DESCRIPTION:On Friday 14th March – 10:00-3:00 at Pudsey Civic Hall\, we are hosting the return of our annual secondary vocal workshop and performance event with Craig Lees of Leeds Conservatoire and Living Vocally.  All secondary schools in Leeds are invited to take part in this event for individual singers and choirs from KS3\, KS4 and 6th form.  The structure of the day will be to learn 2 pop song arrangements in multiple parts and then to perform them en masse at the end of the day.  Regular breaks will be planned throughout the day to protect voices.  All participating schools will be provided with sheet music of Craig’s arrangements so that choirs can perform them back in school and/or groups of singers can rehearse their parts and record for exam coursework submissions.  This will also lead to an exciting performance opportunity as part of a Leeds secondary schools choir in July 2025 – details to be announced soon.  Both events are fully funded by ArtForms as part of the new West Yorkshire Music Hub\, with no charge to Leeds schools.  Booking details to follow.  For more information please contact Jane.Roe@leeds.gov.uk.

This FREE Art and Music project is aimed at KS2 and KS3 children and will take place in Leeds Art Gallery on selected dates in the summer term. \nProject outline: \n\nThis project will link Art activities with music composition and improvisation through a common theme.\nLeeds Art Gallery will host an online gallery visit for each visiting school\, and introduce the themes of the visit and provide interactive activities prior to the session at the Gallery.\nA morning or afternoon visit for a designated class to the Art gallery either on Friday 28th June or Friday 12th July\, which will include an opportunity to make music and art in the gallery space\, and gives the chance for children to explore the latest Art exhibition at the gallery.\n\n  \nThe project is fully funded by Leeds Art gallery and LMEP\, and you will be able to get support with transport costs to the Art Gallery via LMEP’s innovative grant. DESCRIPTION:ArtForms and Leeds Music Education Partnership (LMEP) are delighted to announce our second Primary Music Leaders Conference as part of Music Connect.  This is fully funded by LMEP so there is no charge to Leeds school. \nFriday 17th May \n9:00-3:00 \nPudsey Civic Hall \nMusic Connect is our programme of curriculum support for Music Leaders in all Leeds schools.  The termly Music Leaders Network is an important part of Music Connect\, bringing Music Leaders together from primary schools across Leeds to share experiences and discuss the latest developments in Music Education. \nSince the start of the pandemic our network meetings moved online\, increasing attendance due to the convenience of accessing a twilight session from school or home.  However\, we really value face to face events for Music Leaders to truly network which is why we have created the new conference. \nThis year the conference will include – \nAn Ofsted Deep Dive panel discussion sharing experiences from Otley St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School and Cockburn Haigh Road Academy plus a head teacher from a local academy chain TBC. \nFollowed by workshops from – \n\nSue Nicholls – A Fresh Look at Composition for key stages 1&2.  Sue is a vastly experienced music teacher who works nationwide as a music education consultant delivering workshops\, seminars\, keynotes and CPD as well as being published author for Collins (Music Express) and OUP.\nSing Up – Sharon Durrant from https://www.singup.org will explore the new Sing Up curriculum and provide Music Leaders with access to resources that can be shared with the non-specialist Music teachers in their school.\nMusical Futures – Fran Hannan from www.musicalfuturesonline.org will lead an interactive session on the chair drumming resources from their free resource library which attendees can use with both their classes and share with colleagues.\n\nMusic Connect receives funding from LMEP which enables ArtForms to offer the programme to Leeds Schools and Academies at no charge. \n  \nSign up here – Primary Music Leaders Conference. \n  \nFor more information please email Sam.Mercer@leeds.gov.uk \n  \nSam Mercer\, Music Curriculum Support Manager\, ArtForms

SUMMARY:Living Vocally for Secondary Singers with Craig Lees
DESCRIPTION:Friday 15th March – 10:00-3:00.  Venue Pudsey Civic Hall. \nSecondary Vocal Workshop and Performance Event with Craig Lees of Leeds Conservatoire and Living Vocally \nOn Friday 15th March we are hosting the return of our secondary singing day which in previous years has featured Mark De-Lisser (2018) and Craig Lees (2019).  Craig is now returning for the first secondary vocal day since COVID. This is partly in response to feedback from our LMEP Secondary Music Leaders Network sessions where requests for more\, high level singing opportunities for secondary school students and the chance for schools to sing collaboratively\, were requested by Heads of Music in Leeds. \n  \nThe need to improve both the amount of singing and the opportunities to sing more demanding repertoire is supported by the recent Music Subject Report from Ofsted which stated that – The strongest aspect of the curriculum in primary schools was teaching pupils to sing. In secondary schools\, curriculum content that developed pupils’ singing and vocal work was far rarer. Singing was a significant aspect of the curriculum in only a very small number of secondary schools. Most secondary schools did not build on the strong progress and enjoyment that pupils had experienced in their singing at primary school. \n  \nAll secondary schools in Leeds are invited to take part in this event for individual singers and choirs from Yr 9 up to Yr 13. The structure of the day will be to learn 2 pop song arrangements in multiple parts and then to perform them en masse at the end of the day. Regular breaks will be planned throughout the workshop to protect voices. All participating schools will be provided with sheet music of Craig’s arrangements so that choirs can perform them back in school and/or groups of singers can rehearse their parts and record for exam coursework submissions. This event is fully funded by LMEP\, with no charge to Leeds schools. Book tickets here.
