COVID:19 Guidance for Music Provision – September 2020

To help partners, organisations, schools and music staff navigate through the plethora of information that circulated concerning music education in the context of the Covid-19 situation, we created this guidance document.

The key purpose of this document was to collate the key messages from the current regulations (particularly from the DfE), together with some information as to how this can be interpreted and implemented most effectively in schools and elsewhere. Please note that this guidance was very much a live document at the time (September 2020) and may have been updated as further information emerged.

Until September 2024, the Leeds Music Education Partnership (LMEP) was the music education hub for Leeds. It has now been replaced with the West Yorkshire Music Hub.

Drawing together schools with partners from many organisations involved with music education, ArtForms delivers a coordinated music offer in response to the National Plan for Music Education fulfilling the hub roles and providing subsidies and support.

Artsmark and Music Mark

The Artsmark Partnership Programme, run by Arts Council England, is an endorsed network of organisations who support Artsmark registered schools on their journey to embed arts and culture across the curriculum. ArtForms, is delighted to have been awarded Artsmark Partner status. Schools embarking on their Artsmark journey can be confident that music activities and support services provided by ArtForms are approved and appropriate for inclusion in their Artsmark music development plans. We are also affiliated with Music Mark, a national membership organisation that champions high-quality music education.

Subsidies and Support for Leeds Schools

Through funding from the West Yorkshire Music Hub, ArtForms is delighted to be able to offer support to schools in 2025-26.

Please see below our new offer for schools, which includes information about the latest subsidies and support for Leeds schools, and the new cashback and bursary forms which will need to be used for all applications made from September 2025.

Digital Offer

ArtForms are pleased to be able to offer a fully subsidised license/subscription for Charanga, Sing Up, Sparkyard or Musical Futures to all Leeds schools. These are funded by the West Yorkshire Music Hub. The number of licenses we have to offer is limited, so please get your request in early (ideally before the summer holidays). Each partner is responsible for quality assuring all of its work, and ensuring that it has robust child protection, health & safety, and equal opportunities policies in place when working with children and young people.

Lead Partner – ArtForms Music

ArtForms Music Service, part of Leeds City Council, provides a wide range of learning for children and young people. We provide instrumental and vocal lessons, National Curriculum support as well as Accompanying Pianists and Ensemble Conductors. Projects, workshops and concerts in schools. City of Leeds Youth Music groups and community Music Centres (also open to adults) provide out-of-school music.
