‘Embedding Arts, Culture and Heritage in your Curriculum’ 9.00am-1.00pm 

 This workshop will explore how to adapt and design a curriculum which embeds arts, culture and heritage. The session will include case studies presented by schools and arts practitioners, which will explore different approaches and models of delivery to meets the needs of pupils.

This exciting day will include practical hands on workshops delivered by a number of experienced arts and heritage providers. Covering different art forms including art, music, dance and drama, this will be a great opportunity to explore creative ideas and approaches and  learn new skills which can be applied in the classroom.

Both events also include a ‘marketplace’ of experienced local arts and cultural providers who are available to work in school.

The partnership has a wide membership and brings together arts, cultural, educational and community organisations and the local authority to ensure a joined-up arts and cultural offer for children and young people.

In November 2018, we held a Briefing Meeting for Headteachers and Senior Leaders.  The meeting included a Skype presentation from Susan Aykin, HMI and National Lead for Visual and Performing Arts. Susan spoke on the importance of a broad and balanced curriculum with particular reference to the Arts.

Following on from this, we have two events coming up for the Spring and Summer terms, which you may be interested in.  Places can be booked individually.  However, there is a discount available if schools book Sessions 2 and 3 together.

Session 2: A Creative Curriculum Design Workshop for Heads and Curriculum Leaders

Friday 1^st March 2019, 9am – 3pm, Leeds City Museum

Aimed at heads and curriculum leaders, this event will explore how to adapt and design a curriculum which embed arts, culture and heritage within your curriculum to meets the needs of your pupils.

Session 3: A Conference for Classroom Practitioners:‘An Arts, Culture and Heritage Curriculum in Leeds’

Friday 14^th June 2019, 9am – 3pm, Carriageworks

The day will include practical  workshops delivered by experienced arts, culture and heritage providers. Covering different art forms including art, music, dance and drama, this will be a great opportunity to up skill teachers and raise awareness of the local support available.

The Leeds Cultural Education Partnership (LCEP)*, in partnership with Noctua and YITSA teaching schools, are hosting a programme of events with a focus on ‘Embedding Arts, Culture and Heritage in your Curriculum’.

Spanning three events over this academic year, the programme aims to support schools to consider how they might enrich their curriculum and broaden pupil experience by engaging with the arts, culture and heritage offer in Leeds and beyond.

The first event is a briefing meeting for Headteachers and Senior Leaders.   It will take place on Tuesday 27th November 2018 from 8.30am – 11.00am at the Discovery Centre.   The meeting will include a Skype presentation from Susan Aykin, HMI and National Lead for Visual and Performing Arts. In response to recent announcements from Ofsted, Susan will be speaking on the importance of a broad and balanced curriculum with particular reference to the Arts. Susan will answer your questions provided in advance and taken from the floor. (If you have any questions please submit them now!) In addition, there will be an opportunity to hear from local school leaders on how and why they deliver an arts rich curriculum.

October sees the launch of a totally revamped Artsmark award from Arts Council England which will help your school target priorities in your school development plan with support from arts and cultural organisations and practitioners.

Cape UK are offering schools in Wakefield, York and Leeds an exclusive preview of the new-look Artsmark and the chance to meet some of the region’s arts and cultural organisations at our Artsmark Briefing and Marketplace event on 30th September at Leeds West Academy from 4pm to 6pm.

The new Artsmark has been designed with teachers to support connections with schools’ own strategies and is aligned with the National Curriculum and planning cycles. For those who have achieved Artsmark before, the biggest difference you’ll see is that Artsmark is now forward looking rather than being an audit of past work. The feedback from pilot schools who tested the new process last term has been very positive.

After the briefing session there will be a marketplace where you can meet arts and cultural organisations and practitioners to discuss your needs and find new ways of working together to achieve your aims.
