This training course is designed to develop and deepen primary school teachers’ knowledge and understanding of the Art, Craft and Design Programme of Study. The session will explore collage and print and will include:

• a range of practical activities;
• an exploration of progression of skills across Key Stages;
• reference to relevant artists

The Leeds Cultural Education Partnership (LCEP)*, in partnership with Noctua and YITSA teaching schools, are hosting a programme of events with a focus on ‘Embedding Arts, Culture and Heritage in your Curriculum’.

Spanning three events over this academic year, the programme aims to support schools to consider how they might enrich their curriculum and broaden pupil experience by engaging with the arts, culture and heritage offer in Leeds and beyond.

The first event is a briefing meeting for Headteachers and Senior Leaders.   It will take place on Tuesday 27th November 2018 from 8.30am – 11.00am at the Discovery Centre.   The meeting will include a Skype presentation from Susan Aykin, HMI and National Lead for Visual and Performing Arts. In response to recent announcements from Ofsted, Susan will be speaking on the importance of a broad and balanced curriculum with particular reference to the Arts. Susan will answer your questions provided in advance and taken from the floor. (If you have any questions please submit them now!) In addition, there will be an opportunity to hear from local school leaders on how and why they deliver an arts rich curriculum.

Fun, Games and History! is a training session designed to explore how familiar games, stories and children’s knowledge of where they live can be used in an creative and engaging way to teach local history, geography and citizenship.

Clay is a fantastic material for children to use. It’s easy to manipulate and because of its heritage can be used to enhance areas across the curriculum. This session is designed to provide teachers with hints, tips and techniques to ensure pupils clay creations are a lasting legacy of their learning.

This two-day accredited course in Philosophy for Children (P4C) will introduce the basics of P4C and give you the tools to get you started practicing P4C with your students. The course will be delivered by Grace Robinson from Thinking Space – a social enterprise that creates interesting and inclusive spaces for people of all ages to think philosophically together.

The course will take place over two days- Wednesday 18th January 2017 & Thursday 2nd March 2017, 9am – 4pm

Using film in the classroom can be an effective way of engaging your pupils and enhancing subjects across the curriculum. This hands on session is designed to provide you with the practical skills and confidence to support your pupils to make films, using an iPad and iMovie. Suitable for KS1 and KS2 teachers. This session will be led by Craig Lawson, an Independent Film Producer with over twenty years’ experience of the media industries and is supported by Into Film.
