Designing and making a product out of textiles is a essential part of the D&T programme of study.   It is also an opportunity for pupils to develop life skills. 

This training session will explore each aspect of the design, make, evaluate cycle through textiles.   Delegates will: 

Investigate and evaluate a range of existing products from the M&S Archive 

Design their own product, in response to a design brief 

Have a go at a range of practical focused tasks including, basic stitches, creating a template and exploring fastenings.

This training course is designed to develop and deepen primary school teachers’ knowledge and understanding of the Design and Technology (D&T) Programme of Study. The session will explore computer aided design (CAD) and electrical systems and will include:

• a range of practical activities;
• an exploration of progression of skills across Key Stages;
• reference to designers

This virtual session is designed to give an overview of the key aspects of leading Design & Technology (D&T) in a primary school context. With reference to the D&T Programme of Study and the Ofsted framework, delegates will consider planning, progression and assessment in D&T. Although the training will be delivered through Zoom, the session will be hands on and there will be a number of practical tasks. These are designed for non- D&T specialists and will support the development of delegate’s skills, knowledge and confidence in D&T. Examples of good practice will be shared and there will be lots of opportunity for questions and discussion.

Delivered by national D&T primary education consultant, Gareth Pimley, this session will provide delegates with a strategic overview of the subject before focusing on practical skills, techniques and know how in relation to mechanical and electrical systems.  Delegates will design and make products which they will be able to take back to school.
