Leeds Youth Jazz Rock Orchestra Concert

LYJRO’s final gig of the year will take place on Sunday, 14th July at Pudsey Parish Church.

This will be a full-length LYJRO gig. It is the same day as the European Championships Football Final so we will start at 5:30pm.

The venue is going to show the match after our gig has finished so all are welcome to stay and watch it.

We are delighted to announce another performance opportunity for LYJRO this term at the New Headingley Club, LS6 3BG on Friday 29^th March (please note this is Good Friday).

Date – Friday 29^th March 2024

Arrival – 6:30pm

Concert – 7:30pm

Concert dress – all black

Opportunity for young composers!

LYJRO are taking part in an exciting project this academic year alongside other Youth Jazz bands which involves the commissioning and performing of new material.

As part of the commissioning, there is the opportunity for two young composers (aged 18 to 25) to take part. Those who are chosen will work alongside a composer and be involved in the composing process.

A celebration of the Leeds Schools’ choir with guest appearances from Guiseley School choir, Allerton Grange choir and our very own Leeds Youth Jazz Rock Orchestra (LYJRO).

Doors Open at 5:30PM

Tickets – £8 per adult, £6 per child. Children under the age of 3 may enter for free if seated on a parents lap, but for their own chair a £6 ticket is required.

City of Leeds Youth Music Videos: LYJRO and Leeds Silver Steel Sparrows

It was fantastic to have many of our City of Leeds Youth Music groups back in person last week – the atmosphere was buzzing! It was so good to see so many familiar faces again, as well as quite a few new ones.

We don’t want to forget the amazing work put in by the young people during a hard year last year though. While we couldn’t do our usual Prom event, we went virtual for 3 bite-size concerts, with a mixture of lockdown videos and some filmed at socially distanced rehearsals.

Here is the first of those concerts, featuring two of our advanced groups: Leeds Silver Steel Sparrows and LYJRO.

If you know a young person who plays steel pans or is interested in jazz, we’d love to hear from you!

Visiting group Rock ‘n’ Strings from Chemnitz, Germany, will join LYJRO and Roots Alive for a joint concert on 9th March.

The evening will include jazz, rock, and folk music, a ceilidh (with caller), and a bar and buffet. Get your dancing shoes on and join us!

Date: Saturday 9th March 2019
Time: 7.30-11pm
Venue: The Ballroom, Pudsey Civic Hall, LS28 5TA
Price: Adults £10 / Concession £5 (includes entrance and a free buffet)

Get Ready for the City of Leeds Youth Music Prom!

Tickets are now available for the 2019 City of Leeds Youth Music Prom at Leeds Town Hall!

Schools are invited to bring primary, GCSE and A Level pupils along for an afternoon of music in a variety of genres from some of the city’s top young musicians. This year’s theme is “International” and will include performances from the City of Leeds Youth Orchestra, City of Leeds Youth Wind Orchestra, Leeds Youth Jazz-Rock Orchestra, Roots Alive – Youth Folk Group, and Leeds Silver Steel Sparrows, as well as guest group Rock ‘n’ Strings from Chemnitz, Germany.

Date: Tuesday 12th March 2019
Time: 1.15-2.45pm
Venue: Leeds Town Hall
Ticket price: £3.00 (adults and pupils)
Please note that schools are responsible for their own transport to and from the venue.
