Who Can Attend?
Students in Year 6 and above, who are Grade 1 standard and above on a woodwind or brass instrument.

What to Expect:

On Tuesday 20th January, Pudsey Civic Hall will come alive with the sound of young musicians working together in full rehearsals and focused sectionals. They will learn from our experienced ArtForms tutors, make new friends, and experience the thrill of playing in a large ensemble.

The day ends with a play-through at 2:30pm, where they will show off what they have achieved – parents and families are warmly invited. It is a fantastic opportunity for the students to improve their skills, boost their confidence, and discover what ArtForms ensembles have to offer.

What to Bring:

  • Instrument
  • Pencil
  • Packed lunch
  • Water bottle
  • Ear defenders (if required)
  • Book / homework / mini games for breaktime and lunchtime (no balls please!)
  • Any medication / inhalers etc. (if required)

Students will not be able to leave the building during the day. Students do not need to come in school uniform.

We warmly invite you to watch ‘The Snowman and The Snowdog’ with the City of Leeds Youth Orchestra performing live. It is an important event for motivating and inspiring the next generation of young musicians coming up and we are delighted to be able to host this event.

Last year, we performed two concerts for schools showing The Snowman, so it is fantastic that we are able to offer a similar opportunity again this year. We are limiting schools to one year group booking each. If you would like to involve more students, please let us know as more seats may become available later.

There will be three screenings on Monday 15th December: one at 11am and one at 1:30pm (both for schools only), and a public concert at 6.00pm. The concert will be approx. 45 minutes long.

Count Me In! is a vibrant and imaginative new project that brings music and maths to life for Key Stage 2 pupils (ages 7–11). Blending joyful learning with world-class performance, this unique programme has been created by presenter/composer Tim Redmond for the Leeds International Piano Competition, with star pianist Alexandra Dariescu playing the Grieg Piano Concerto at its heart.

The show is packed with sing-along songs, incredible piano music, and highlights fascinating links between music and maths – all designed to captivate and inspire.

Leeds International Piano Competition (LIPC) is delighted to offer the whole Count Me In package – 6-week Scheme of Work, Resource Bank and film of the live show – completely free to Leeds primary schools:

  • CPD – Self-paced, online teacher training resources offering new ideas and building confidence to deliver the music curriculum
  • A six-week scheme of work, designed for music specialists and non-specialists alike to use in class. Half a term’s worth of structured Sing, Listen, Play activities which develop skills from the Model Music Curriculum and prepare the children to watch
  • A high-quality film of the live show, recorded at the Carriageworks Theatre in Leeds, performed and presented by pianist Alexandra Dariescu and composer/conductor Tim Redmond

Music Connect provides a programme of network groups, CPD and events designed specifically for music subject leaders. The Music Connect mission is to support all Leeds schools to deliver high quality music education, enabling all pupils to reach their musical potential.  Music Connect is delivered by ArtForms Music.

The Music Connect offer includes:

  1. Music events for school students to participate in
  2. CPD training opportunities for teachers and supporting staff, delivered by music specialists
  3. Network meetings to support Music Leaders in all Leeds schools
  4. Termly newsletters containing information about local and national opportunities for schools
  5. The Digital Offer – fully funded memberships to online platforms containing music schemes of work, lessons and resources, designed to support teachers to deliver the music curriculum.  Schools can choose from Charanga, Sing Up, or Musical Futures, and have the option of purchasing memberships to a second platform with our hub discount.
  6. Bespoke advice and guidance sessions in your school

Music Connect is funded by ArtForms as a consortium partner of the West Yorkshire Music Hub, so Leeds schools and academies can access the programme at no charge.  Unfortunately, due to rising costs, and a reduction in funding, some of the mass performance events this year will incur a nominal charge per child.  We continue to try and keep the costs down for schools, while at the same time maintaining the quality that schools expect for our events.  All staff CPD, network groups, the conference and the digital offer, remain fully funded by ArtForms and the hub and so have no cost to schools.
