The Henry Moore Institute

We love working with our amazing arts and cultural partners and are thrilled that we will be delivering this training session on sculpture with Alison Smith from the Henry Moore Institute.   The session is for primary teachers and will be suitable for Art subject leaders or classroom teachers.

The training will explore different types of sculpture.   There will be lots of practical activities to develop delegates understanding of materials and how this aspect of art can be taught in the primary classroom.   We will explore key art work from the Henry Moore Institute and Leeds Art Gallery and model how these can be used as a stimulus for learning.   For further information and to book your place, please visit Leeds for Learning.

The Virtual Primary Arts Leader Network is aimed at school based colleagues with responibility for leading an arts subject.  This will be a chance to hear about upcoming opportunities; share experiences and make contact with colleagues in a similar role from across the city.

It is free of charge and will be delivered through Zoom, so you can access the Network at a location of your choice!

Armley Mills Industrial Museum

Talking about art can be daunting and adults often have a fear of getting it wrong.  However, using art can be a fantastic way of getting pupils to talk.  It provides pupils with something to talk about and can develop the range and quality of their vocabulary, whilst building their general knowledge.

The Art, Craft and Design Programme of Study requires pupils to be able to  “evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art…” This training session will explore strategies and techniques to enable teachers to feel confident about addressing this area of the curriculum.

This half day training session, delivered by Anna Pickard (specialist teacher of Art and Design) will provide clear guidance on how to assess children’s art work. Delivered over a half day, the course will:

• provide a national context
• explore case studies and different approaches to assessment from schools in Leeds
• provide practical assessment tasks and activities, designed to raise teacher confidence
• offer the opportunity to peer assess children’s work, using examples from participating schools

This is a really great opportunity for you to boost your confidence and review your methods of measuring the success of your pupils! It will take place on Tuesday 20th March 2018, 1pm – 4pm at Scrap Creative Reuse, The Spinning Mill, Sunnybank Mills, LS28 5UJ
