Delegates will learn practical skills to teach children of all ages how to prepare and cook healthy nutritious recipes. The course will cover progression, assessment and ensure delegates are confident to teach a wide range of cooking skills safely, including chopping techniques. You will have the opportunity to try out different cooking techniques in a real school kitchen and work in groups to prepare and cook a range of healthy recipes. We will work as a team to explore barriers and solutions for delivering an effective cooking curriculum.

For the first time since the pandemic, our How to be an effective Art subject leader training session will be face to face.   This course is targeted at primary Art subject leaders who are new to the role or are in need of a refresher.  This course will provide delegates with the essential ‘need to know’.  There will be the opportunity for delegates to review their art curriculum, considering progression of knowledge.

Food and nutrition is a significant aspect of the Design and Technology (D&T) national curriculum.  As part of our primary D&T training for teachers, ArtForms are delighted to be working with Siobhan Jennings, Healthy Eating Advisor in the School Health and Wellbeing Team on this upcoming training.

The session will  develop delegates skills, knowledge and experience of food and nutrition to enable them to confidently lead and support their colleagues.   Delegates will explore how cooking fits within the D&T programme of study and will make two contrasting recipes.

Primary Art Network

All teachers in Leeds are invited to attend one (or more!) of our regular Primary Art Networks.  These are free for colleagues who work in Leeds schools.   They are delivered online and include a curriculum focus and updates.  The dates of these sessions are:

Online: Teams

Last chance to book a place at this online training session which will look at two areas of the primary D&T curriculum: computer aided design (CAD) and electrical systems.  This session is designed to demystify both areas and give subject leaders the confidence to support colleagues to deliver these aspects of D&T.    Booking is through Leeds for Learning.

In the recent Ofsted research review on art, craft and design, the report states “school leaders need to ensure that they give teachers and subject leaders enough time and support to develop their subject content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge.  If teachers lack this knowledge, they will struggle to provide a rich, subject-specific curriculum that develops pupils’ knowledge and capabilities.”

ArtForms Arts Development can help develop the knowledge and practical skills of your class teachers, through staff twilight sessions available in art and/or D&T.    In previous schools, we have delivered the following areas:

Every half term we deliver a free Primary Arts Network is for any Leeds primary teacher interested in finding out more about matters relating to arts and cultural teaching and learning.

As well as sharing local and national updates, there is a curriculum focus.  For our upcoming session we will be looking at recycled art.  The meeting will provide colleagues with the opportunity to develop their subject knowledge alongside networking and will be delivered through Teams.
