Over Lockdown 1 the ArtForms National Curriculum Music team produced over one hundred videos for schools to use when we weren’t able to teach face to face. These were designed specifically for use both in school with keyworker children, and for home learning. The content covers all phases from EYFS through to KS2. Schools and parents have commented how much children have enjoyed and benefited from these regular music curriculum sessions.

For the duration of this lockdown we have made a sample of those videos available on our YouTube channel to support all schools.

You don’t need an instrument to practise music at home – as proved by one creative solution from our Steel Pan Department, who are creating resources for steel pans and mixed percussion – larger instruments that are usually kept at school. They’ve come up with templates that you can print out or copy for Soprano Pan and Glockenspiel, and will be adding more lessons soon.

Other departments are also adding new resources each week, so please do keep an eye on our Music Home Learning Resources pages for more lessons, exercises and pieces to try. We’ve also added some sheet music for Over The Rainbow which we’re playing each Thursday at 8pm to show appreciation for all of the hard work our NHS workers are doing at the minute.

If you need some musical inspiration, why not check out North Leeds Music Centre who are sharing daily inspirational videos and links on their Twitter page. All Music Centre students should also have received an email with a link to online lessons developed specifically for their ensemble or class – if you haven’t had this, please get in touch with your Head of Centre – contact details can be found on each Music Centre page.

We are progressing plans to be able to deliver online 1 to 1 lessons for our students via a trusted, specialised music learning platform for just after the Easter holidays. With this system, students will be able to access regular music lessons with their teacher. We are currently working very hard to ensure that the learning platforms comply fully with Leeds City Council’s safeguarding and GDPR regulations and that there are suitable protections in place for both students and staff. Watch this space for more information on how to access that when it is in place.

Please also like and follow ArtForms on Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram to receive regular updates on our plans. In the meantime, you can also access our Home Learning Resources here.

Thank you so much for your support and patience in this challenging time. Take care, and keep making music. It’s more important now than ever before.
