A review of the Sheku Kanneh-Mason and Harry Baker concert presented by Leeds Music Education Partnership

On Thursday 1st December 2022, 250 young people and their teachers attended a wonderful afternoon hearing the music and thoughts of world-famous cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason and his accompanist Harry Baker.

The audience, made up of students from a number of Leeds secondary schools and young people who are members of ArtForms City of Leeds Youth Music groups, travelled to The Wardrobe to enjoy a very special experience organised and subsidised by Leeds Music Education Partnership (LMEP).

There was a real sense of excitement as the audience waited for Sheku and Harry to take to the stage and then absolute silence throughout the entire concert as the young people were completely captivated by the performance.

The programme consisted of a wide-ranging repertoire, with everything from Bach to Bacharach, with the performers introducing each piece with a brief explanation. Towards the end of the concert, Sheku and Harry then answered questions from the audience. This was a great opportunity for the young people to find out more about the performers, their backgrounds, their musical interests and much, much more!

After a final encore, Sheku and Harry left the stage and all agreed that it had been an amazing afternoon and a wonderful opportunity for our students and their teachers.
