City of Leeds Youth Music Prom, Thursday 10th March 2016, Leeds Town Hall
Our Youth Music Prom 2016 was a resounding success! Featuring Music from the BBC ‘Ten Pieces’ and well-known film scores, performed by some of the finest young musicians in Leeds, the varied and lively concert was attended by over 800 students from 20 Leeds primary and secondary schools. Flutes Leeds entertained guests in the foyer with a selection of classics before Leeds City Organist Simon Lindley opened the concert with a thunderous rendition of Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor. City of Leeds Youth Orchestra gave impressive performances of Bizet’s Suite from ‘Carmen’, Suk’s Meditation on Old Bohemian Chorale ‘St Wenceslas’, and the film scores Pirates of the Caribbean and Jurassic Park – the Lost World. The audience (and youth orchestra!) danced along to blistering numbers from the Leeds Youth Jazz Rock Orchestra, and sang along with shimmering pop songs on steel pans from the award-winning Leeds Silver Steel Sparrows. A selection of music from Les Miserables by all three ensembles rounded off an unforgettable afternoon!
