Leeds Youth Music Festival

During the 2022 Summer Term, the Leeds Music Education Partnership (LMEP) were delighted to host the very first Leeds Youth Music Festival. This festival was an opportunity to celebrate the rich and diverse music made by the children and young people of Leeds. It incorporated all LMEP funded activities such as the City of Leeds Youth Music concerts, music centre events, school events including from the LMEP Champion Schools, Music Connect workshops and performances, the Leeds Schools Music Association Big Sing and Instrumental Days and activities from our LMEP partners.

Beginning with the tag line of “36 concerts in 36 days”, this rapidly increased, with some days including four or five performances. Following almost two years of no live music, it was fantastic to see the encouragement and inspiration from our city’s schools and the perseverance of our children and young people. Over 4600 children and young people took part in either the live performances or the online events and over 80 schools were represented. The festival concluded on Tuesday 19th July 2022 with an incredible performance by the City of Leeds Youth Orchestra at Selby Abbey.

So, what is next? Keep an eye out for the LMEP calendar, which is due to land into your inboxes in the next couple of weeks. This will be full of the many exciting events that are happening this year. Look out for information about how you can get involved with the Leeds Schools Music Association (LSMA) Christmas Concert happening on Tuesday 29th November. We also have a very exciting “save the date” – Leeds Arena concert on Wednesday 21st June 2023.
