The Create and Sing Project from The Royal Opera House

Part 1 of this course has already taken place.  However delegates are still welcome to sign up for Part 2 of this amazing opportunity.

Part 2: Wednesday 1st February 2023, 2-5pm, Pudsey Civic Hall

We have tried to make this as easy for staff to access as possible. The first session was after school and online, while the second session will require one afternoon out of school at Pudsey Civic Hall from 2pm. The benefits are amazing though: it provides a full scheme of work which is downloadable, supported by the highest quality resources as you would expect from ROH, supporting staff to teach a completely new style of Music in a way that the children will love. Opera is as much Drama as it is Music so it provides a wonderful way of delivering both subjects while also developing those additional skills of devising and performing. Amazing for children’s all round people skills!

This is the second year we are running the Create and Sing project. After introducing Hansel and Gretel last year the latest opera in this series is Mozart’s Magic Flute.

Create and Sing is a CPD opportunity for teachers to learn how to explore opera with school children through practical engagement with the repertoire. Delegates explore a classroom based project, linked to the national curriculum, and designed to give children a better understanding of singing and opera by unlocking their imagination and creativity.

Teachers do not need any previous knowledge of opera to take part and the training provides classroom films, lesson plans and resources to use in ways that suit the needs of the teachers and their students. The course is definitely suited to any member of staff who enjoys teaching drama and the resources are comprehensive and designed for non-specialists.

As part of this offer, teachers are provided with several schemes of work including lesson plans and support materials that feature backing tracks and guidance videos all with the high quality hall mark of the prestigious Royal Opera House.
