The City of Leeds Youth Music Prom is going virtual!
This annual event is normally held in Leeds Town Hall and sees over 150 young musicians from the senior City of Leeds Youth Music groups perform a concert for over 1000 pupils from across Leeds. This year, schools will be able to stream the concert directly from their classrooms and watch performances from five groups representing some of the best young musicians in the city.
For many pupils, it’s their first experience of seeing the instruments they have the opportunity to learn in school played in a performance, and to see other young people closer to their own age playing to a high standard is a great motivation for them in their own learning. It is also for most of them, their first experience of different genres of music and this Prom will be no different, taking Leeds pupils on a journey through classical, jazz, pop, folk and more! The performances will be a combination of films made both at pre-Covid concerts and lockdown montage videos, giving pupils and their teachers a glimpse into what playing in ensembles has been like over the past 14 months, as well as what things will be like when we’re able to play in large groups together again.
The Prom is always a popular event, and we are delighted that this year we will be able to present it for free to all Leeds schools and academies. We hope to see your school take part in this unique celebration of excellent youth music in Leeds.
The City of Leeds Youth Music Prom will be available to stream on YouTube from Friday 11th June 2021. Schools can sign up to receive the link by emailing Catherine at catherine.lloyd@leeds.gov.uk.
