About LMEP

Our Roles

Leeds Music Education Partnership (LMEP) is the music education hub for Leeds.  Drawing together schools with partners from many organisations involved with music education, LMEP delivers a coordinated music offer in response to the National Plan for Music Education fulfilling the hub roles and providing subsidies and support.

The core roles:

a) Ensure that every child aged 5-18 has the opportunity to learn a musical instrument through whole-class ensemble teaching;

b) Provide opportunities to play in ensembles and to perform from an early stage;

c) Ensure that clear progression routes are available and affordable to all young people;

d) Ensure that every pupil sings regularly and that choirs and other vocal ensembles are available in the area.

The extension roles:

a) Offer CPD to school staff;

b) Provide an instrument loan service;

c) Provide access to large scale and / or high quality music experiences for pupils.

Partnership in Action

“A hub is a concept not an organisation. What if a hub was also not bound by the Core & Extension roles, but was a collaboration, a partnership between all those working in a local area to provide services for those who want to access & enjoy a quality musical education?” (Bridget Whyte, Music Mark, October 2019)

Artsmark and Music Mark

The Artsmark Partnership Programme, run by Arts Council England, is an endorsed network of organisations who support Artsmark registered schools on their journey to embed arts and culture across the curriculum. LMEP’s lead partner, ArtForms, is delighted to have been awarded Artsmark Partner status. Schools embarking on their Artsmark journey can be confident that music activities and support services provided by LMEP are approved and appropriate for inclusion in their Artsmark music development plans. We are also affiliated with Music Mark, a national membership organisation that champions high-quality music education.
